"ππͺπΆπͺπ²π¬πͺ" Signed Exhibition Poster
In collaboration with the Valentine Museum of Art (VMoA), King David is pleased to offer a limited quantity of 100 signed posters to commemorate βππͺπΆπͺπ²π¬πͺβ, his first solo exhibition in Chelsea, NYC, at Sean Scully and Liliane Tomaskoβs former-studio-turned-gallery, 447 SPACE (Sept. - Oct. 2023).
From a total of 1000 posters, 800 will be given away, unsigned, to various educational groups, fine art institutions, schools, and visitors to the gallery exhibition. Another 100 will be jointly signed by both King David and Michael Valentine, Owner and Director of the Valentine Museum of Art, and made available for purchase at a later time.
Each poster measures 26 in. W x 38 in. H and features a hi-res image of King Davidβs starkly expressive painting titled βOne Bloodβ, executed as a part of the βππͺπΆπͺπ²π¬πͺβ body of work in 2022. βOne Bloodβ represents a visual distillation of the idealized unity of African-blooded peoples across the planet, similarly expressed in the legendary Junior Reid song of the same name. Thinner applications of paint, visible at the edges of the image, expose the cool, luminous Copper Sheet of the underlying surface, accentuating the posterβs sanguine aesthetic.
As noted at the bottom of the poster, the work has already been added to the Valentine Museum of Artβs Permanent Collection. As such, the original painting will not be displayed alongside other works at the gallery, nor will it be made available for purchase. This makes the poster a distinct, special piece; it depicts a museum-owned work that very few people have ever seen in person, destined to live alongside others in a collection steeped in the excellence of black/brown/diasporic Artists.
